Who is The Study OS for?

The Study OS is designed for students across different streams, courses, and age groups. Whether you study engineering, science, commerce, humanities, or another field, you can use The Study OS to organize your Subjects, Topics, Notes, and Diagrams.

Do I need a Google account to use The Study OS?

You need a Google account to sign in and access your workspace in The Study OS. Your Google account is used for authentication; your study data is stored separately on your device and is not stored in a server database by The Study OS.

How do I get started with The Study OS?

Sign in with Google and open your workspace. Start by creating a Subject for a course or study area, then add Topics to organize chapters or sub-topics. You can create Notes for written material and Diagrams for visual learning.

How are Subjects and Topics organized in The Study OS?

A Subject represents a course or major area of study. Within each Subject, you can create Topics to organize chapters, units, or other areas of your coursework. This gives you a simple structure for keeping related Notes and Diagrams together.

Can I organize my Subjects the way I want?

Yes. You can create Subjects based on the courses or areas you are studying and organize each Subject with Topics that make sense for you. The Study OS does not prescribe a particular way of organizing your studies.

What happens if I delete a Subject?

Deleting a Subject also removes the Topics and study content associated with it. Because this action affects the study material within that Subject, make sure you no longer need the content before deleting it.

What can I do with Notes in The Study OS?

Notes give you a place to write and organize your study material within a Subject or Topic. You can format your content and use features such as mathematical equations and code formatting to create Notes that fit the way you study.

Does The Study OS support mathematical equations and code?

Yes. The Study OS supports mathematical equations using LaTeX notation, rendered with KaTeX, as well as syntax highlighting for code in common languages such as JavaScript, Python, and SQL. LaTeX notation is a simple way to describe mathematical expressions using text commands. For example, x^2 creates a squared value, while \frac{a}{b} creates a fraction. You don't need to learn all of LaTeX to get started — you can begin with a few common expressions and build from there. Learn more: KaTeX Supported Functions

Are my Notes saved automatically?

Yes. Your Notes are saved automatically as you work, so you don't need to repeatedly save your changes manually.

Is there a limit to how much I can write in a Note?

Notes are stored locally in your browser, and very large Notes may be affected by the storage limits of your browser and device. For the best experience, we recommend keeping individual Notes focused and manageable.

What can I use Diagrams for in The Study OS?

Diagrams help you visually organize and understand concepts alongside your Notes. You can use them for things such as flowcharts, mind maps, system designs, processes, or other visual representations that support your learning.

Where can I create Diagrams?

You can create Diagrams within your study workspace where they are relevant to your learning. Diagrams can be associated with Subjects, Topics, or individual Notes, helping you keep visual material close to the content it supports.

Which diagram editors are supported in The Study OS?

The Study OS currently supports Excalidraw and draw.io for creating and editing Diagrams. Both provide visual diagramming tools, so you can create your Diagrams without having to write diagram markup or code.

Where is my study data stored?

Your study data is stored locally in your browser on your device. The Study OS does not use a central server database to store your Subjects, Topics, Notes, or Diagrams. If you choose to enable Google Drive synchronization, encrypted backups can also be stored in your personal Google Drive.

How does Google Drive synchronization work?

When you connect Google Drive, The Study OS synchronizes an encrypted copy of your study data with your personal Google Drive. Your local data remains available on your device, while the synchronized copy provides a way to restore your study space on another device or after local browser data is lost.

Is Google Drive synchronization required?

No. The Study OS can be used without Google Drive synchronization. However, we strongly recommend connecting your personal Google Drive so your study data has a synchronized backup. This can help you restore your latest synced data if you change devices or your browser data is accidentally cleared.

How do I set up The Study OS on a new device?

If you already have a backup from The Study OS in Google Drive, restore that backup to your new, empty workspace before creating or adding new study content. Once your backup has been restored, you can continue working and enable synchronization as needed. > Important: Do not start working in a new, empty workspace and then set up synchronization. Doing so can cause the existing backup in Google Drive to be overwritten with the new workspace, resulting in loss of the data previously stored in that backup.

What happens if I change devices or lose my browser data?

If Google Drive synchronization is enabled, you can restore the latest synchronized data from The Study OS after changing devices or losing your local browser data. Start with a blank workspace in The Study OS and restore your existing Google Drive backup before continuing to work. Do not create new content and then connect synchronization to an existing backup, as the backup may be overwritten by the current workspace.

What does The Study OS store in my Google Drive?

When you connect Google Drive, The Study OS stores an encrypted copy of your study data in your personal Google Drive. This provides a backup of your study workspace that you can use to restore your data when needed.

Can I use Google Drive synchronization on more than one device?

Yes. You can use your Google Drive backup to restore your workspace in The Study OS on another device. When setting up a new device, always restore your existing backup before adding new study content or enabling synchronization for that workspace.

What happens if Google Drive synchronization fails?

Your local study data remains available on your device even if synchronization with Google Drive fails. The Study OS can continue working with your local data, and you can try synchronization again when the connection or authorization issue is resolved.

What happens if my Google Drive authorization expires?

If your Google Drive access expires, The Study OS will ask you to reauthorize access. Your locally stored study data remains available while synchronization is unavailable. Once you reauthorize Google Drive, synchronization can continue.

How is my study data protected?

When encryption is enabled, your study data is encrypted using AES-GCM-256 encryption through the browser's Web Crypto API before being stored locally.

What information does The Study OS collect?

Your study content — including Subjects, Topics, Notes, and Diagrams — is not sent to a server database by The Study OS. The Study OS may collect limited information about how visitors use the public website, such as pages visited and general audience or demographic information, to help us improve the service. We may use services such as Google Analytics for this purpose. If you choose to enable Google Drive synchronization, your encrypted study data is also stored in your personal Google Drive.

Can The Study OS access my Google Drive files?

The Study OS only uses Google Drive when you choose to connect it for synchronization. It uses the Google Drive access required to store and manage your study data and does not need access to unrelated files in your Drive.

Can I delete my data in The Study OS?

Yes. You can delete your study data from your workspace in The Study OS. If you use Google Drive synchronization, you should also consider the corresponding backup stored in your personal Google Drive.

Can I use The Study OS offline?

Once The Study OS is loaded, your study data is stored locally, so you can continue creating and editing Subjects, Topics, Notes, and Diagrams without an internet connection. An internet connection is still required to initially load the application, sign in, and synchronize with Google Drive.

What can I do in The Study OS without an internet connection?

You can continue working with your existing study content, including creating and editing Subjects, Topics, Notes, and Diagrams. Changes made while offline remain on your device and can be synchronized with Google Drive when connectivity is available.

Can I export or retrieve my data from The Study OS?

A simple file-export option is not available yet. We recommend keeping Google Drive synchronization enabled so you have an encrypted copy of your study data in your personal Google Drive. This can help you restore your study space if you change devices or lose your local browser data.

What happens if my browser data is cleared?

The Study OS keeps your study data locally in your browser. If that local data is cleared, you may lose the data stored on that device. If you have Google Drive synchronization enabled, you can restore your latest synchronized data to recover your study space.

Is The Study OS free?

Most core features of The Study OS are available at no cost. In the future, we may introduce a small voluntary charge to help cover ongoing development, maintenance, and infrastructure costs. Optional premium services may also be introduced separately.

Which browsers can I use with The Study OS?

The Study OS is designed for modern browsers. We test the application across Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit to help ensure a consistent experience.

What happens if Google Drive synchronization stops working?

Your locally stored study data remains available on your device even if Google Drive synchronization is temporarily unavailable. Check your internet connection and Google Drive authorization, then try synchronization again. Avoid clearing your local browser data until you have confirmed that your latest study data has been synchronized successfully.
